I have wanted to have an imatiothiki session with Ivi for ever, and we finally managed to do it just weeks before she hops on a plane to NY for her Masters at Princeton. Ivi has been a friend of mine since College, when we were studying Architecture together. I have to say she is one of the most genuine and positive people I know and, style-wise, she is just effortlessly chic, mixing colors and prints, yet staying comfortable in whatever she chooses to wear. Her style is neither too dressy, not too casual, as she is out almost all day long, so she goes for a look that will be suitable for work and drinks. I think her signature look would definitely involve ballerina flats and a huge bag, filled with notes, books and her camera. Although she was quite shy to have her picture taken, we had lots of fun going through her closet and amazing shoe collection.
Who are your favorite designers?
I love Balenciaga, but mostly I am into independent designers. For example, I found this amazing black and blue mini dress at a boutique in Lower East Side, made by an independent designer and I am in love with it!
What are your favorite places to shop?
I don’t go shopping that often, but if I am out and I see something I like, I buy it. I am not really into shopping malls, where there are lots of stores and all the clothes are just stacked there. I crash when I see so many clothes together! Smaller shops, with tasteful design and decoration are mostly my thing, where the clothes are neatly laid out for me to see.
Do you have any stories about any amazing deal you’ve gotten on an awesome piece?
I have a really funny story. I was in New York City once, and I was freezing. So, while walking around SoHo on my own, I got into this store and found out that it had amazing deals on leather jackets! And I found one that I totally loved. Originally, it was for 900$, but the price now had gotten down to 300$. When I went to pay for it, I discovered it had an even better discount, which I hadn’t seen, and I ended up paying for it only 170$! The funny thing is that when I returned to Greece and was showing my new leather jacket to my aunt, we discovered that it was actually a Bottega Venetta leather jacket! I hadn’t noticed the tag! It is really an amazing deal!
What is your idea of a fashion disaster?
Jean jacket on top of jeans. This is the number one thing to avoid. It is almost prohibited!
Do you have anything in your closet that is not yours, but you find yourself wearing constantly?
Oh yes! This Marc by Marc Jacobs bag! I bought it for my friend Sisi, but I haven’t met her yet, as she doesn’t live in Athens. So until I give her the bag, I carry it around – especially on my bike rides! I also have this t-shirt my boyfriend uses to wear during his army days.
What do you go for when dressing up?
Speed. I want to dress up fast. That’s why I mostly wear dresses, they are easy to put on. I believe that all the thinking you should do over a garment should be done when buying it. When you take it home, you should think for a second before putting it on.
Where do you get inspiration for your work?
Mostly from research and literature. What I love about it is to be able to do something that I love, and at the same time something that will make someone else happy.
Which are the five things you cannot live without?
My loved ones, my books, which are full of notes and highlight marks, my Mac, which I call Georgette (my boyfriend calls his Rene – like the Magritte couple), a pair of black jeans I have by Seven and ballerina flats!
